The northern part, or Mojave Desert, of Joshua Tree National Park was really neat! There were huge rock formations everywhere. We stayed at the Jumbo Rocks campground the only night we were there, so I guess that would explain the rocks..
Apparently it's a popular place to climb and we were tempted, but the rocks are very rough. We would need palm gloves to keep our hands from getting too chewed up. On our first evening, we went for a walk and saw a bobcat! I've never seen a bobcat in the wild before! It acted like a big kitty. We even watched it stalking something. Tail doing the twitchy thing and everything. It was neat.
The next day we walked all over jumping over rocks and such. The rocks were so sticky you could walk up just about anything.
After our walk, we started driving south, towards I-10. We saw the Cholla (pronounced coy-ya) Cactus gardens. Very neat looking. That area was the transition into the drier, hotter Colorado Desert. Not as much neat stuff there, we ended up heading out of the park and stayed in Quartzite, AZ last night. Seems to be a trucker town... but the RV park is cheap.

There was an area where there were tons of rocks laid out in all sorts of shapes. Here was a unicorn we thought was well done, and appropriate for our game.

Well, we're finally out of LA. Yesterday we drove out of town and headed towards Joshua Tree National Park. So, we're currently in the desert staying at a cheap RV park north of the national park. There are barely any people here, so it's a lot nicer. The days are crazy though. We're near the edge of the time zone and because of the recent time change, it gets light really early and dark really early. It was super sunny by 6am and it's 4:30 now and the sun will probably be gone within half an hour. It's really messing with both of us. I feel like it's 7pm already. :p

So, I just wrote about the burning pickup and didn't even mention what happened when we found a campground to stay at.
The campground was right on the beach, literally, and it was only $15, which is $10 cheaper than most of the state park campgrounds in the area. Anyway, we got there after dark and a guy had gotten his RV stuck in the sand. He dug himself in right up to his axle. We found ourselves a spot and Joe went over to see if he could help. After trying some things, we decided to see if we could pull it some... We used the webbing we have with us for climbing, but couldn't find a decent place to attach to his RV. Ended up pulling his bumper out some and barely moved him. Not long after that the park ranger showed up. Eventually a buddy of his came that had an SUV and he put it in 4Low, hooked up to the wheel axel?, I believe, then pulled him right out.
So, eventful day yesterday.
We are now in Los Angeles. We decided to get here a couple days early (before Laura and my mom get here) so we could figure things out some.

We were driving down highway 101 when I saw a pickup driving up the on ramp. The truck bed was completely on fire. There was also a fuel tank in the back, which wasn't on fire. The guy got on the highway right in front of us and Joe laid on the horn, assuming they had no idea they were on fire. The guy must have finally looked back wondering what someone was honking about and you could see them freak out and pull over. Joe was worried about it exploding (the fuel tank in back could have been full) so we just continued on our way thinking there was nothing we could do to help anyway. Later, we realized that we have a fire extinguisher on board, where as many cars don't... Ooops. Later we were just off the highway (we took the next exit) and fire trucks were zooming north on highway 101. Apparently the truck ended up starting grass on fire on the side of the road.
