PADI Open Water Diver
06/27/11
One of the goals, since Joe found out he could SCUBA dive, was for me to get certified. Bali is apparently an amazing place for diving, so we researched dive centers here and chose one.
The class consists of 5 chapters or theory from a book (4 quizzes and 1 final exam), confined water sk -
Bali
06/25/11
We flew to Bali from Kuala Lumpur without incident. Took a cab right away to the Ubud area. This is the town in Bali featured in the recent "Eat, Pray, Love" Movie. (So I hear, I haven't seen it.) All of Bali is covered in Art shops. All of high-level/skilled art. Stone carvings -
Kuala Lumpur
06/21/11
We've been pretty boring since we've been here. Sandra left for Bali two days after we got here. We've been working and walking around a little. We went to Little India a couple times to have lunch and dinner. We found a fully vegetarian restaurant that was excellent.

Batad Rice Terraces
06/15/11
We scheduled a tour for Tuesday to go to the Batad Rice Terraces. To save some money, we joined up with a group of four from Spain. The jeepney ride took about an hour down a pretty bumpy road. Well, it wasn't terrible until we turned down a smaller road towards where the trail started. It -
Photos!
06/15/11
Well, we made it to Kuala Lumpur today. We also had an amazing hike through the Batand Terraces yesterday. I'll have to write a separate blog for that and post photos of those terraces when I have time, but here are the slightly older photos I promised first. All photos were taken by Sandra -
North We Go
06/13/11
We left the dive resort on Saturday and started our trek north towards the rice terraces. We caught a bus to Manilla, met Melissa (she has done a lot of work for Horse Isle) and spent some time with her at the Mall of Asia. From there we got on a cushy, overnight bus to Baguio. We arrived at 4:30 -
Scuba Diving!
06/13/11
Sandra wanted to go scuba diving, but would have to rent a boat and guide herself, so I decided to give scuba diving one more try (I had many problems clearing my ears, and losing vision while surfacing.. so was scared).
After about 5 minutes I managed to get my ears to properly clear, not by -
Southern Philippines
06/09/11
After the whale shark adventure we decided to make our way to Legaspi (also spelled Legazpi) in a jeepney (a common way to get around here, though our butts hurt a lot after the hour plus ride) and stay there the night before heading farther north. The place we stayed was relatively cheap, but for -
Whale Sharks!
06/07/11
The fireflies ended up being a lot of fun. We took a small boat up the river and right around when it was getting pretty dark, fireflies started appearing in the trees. They apparently live in the mangroves and synchronize their blinking with each other. It was very neat.
The next mo -
Philippines
06/05/11
We took an afternoon flight to Clark, which is about 85km north of Manila. We arrived and were going to hop on a bus to Manila. Joe went to the ATM to get cash and the card wouldn't work... Sandra tried her card and ended up with the same issue. She had Australian cash left over still, so w -
Kota Kinabalu
06/03/11
We've been hanging out in Kota Kinabalu (also known as KK) for a number of days now. Most of it was just relaxing and walking around town. Two of the days we took a boat to Sapi, a small island not far off shore. The snorkeling there was great. Especially once you got away from the main swi -
Elephant Video
06/01/11
We're currently in Kota Kinabalu but haven't been doing too much. We'll post a separate entry about that later.
Here's a video of clips of the elephants. :)
