      • Home!
        07/28/06
We decided to head home. We discovered most of what gear we were missing,
and how everything works. Now we'll take a few days back at home to finish getting setup for our big trip. On the way home in Bessemer we climbed the City Bluff in Bluff View Park. Nice view, but we ascended on

      • On Our Way Home
        07/27/06
I noticed interesting terrain on Google Earth so we drove over to it. Found out it was a huge burn-down over a strange sandy-bog..
We stopped for a swim at a public park on Lake Superior past Ontonagon. It looked just like Park Point. Afterwards we stopped right next to the Big Iron River an

      • Another night next to a sand pit
        07/26/06
Went window shopping in Copper Harbor. Started running out of gas, so headed back down hwy 41. Another recently paved, yet tiny road, very curvey.
A lot of old logging roads or sand pits scattered around. We picked one
        to take a break on [47 25'36"N 88 00'56"W]. We had

On the road, we went through a construction site where they're working on the highway.

        07/24/06
We went snorkeling at a rocky beach on lake superior [46 36'44" N,90 19'59" W]
had a nice dinner in the parking lot (conveniant!) and then Slowly drove down by the spooky-dark
yet traversable forest floor. Very nice roads so far, small, but good condition.

      • Leaving Bayfield
        07/24/06
We spent the morning in Bayfield. Rode our bikes around a bit,
Thought about scuba diving here, they have some cool wrecks,
but all the coordinates are in LORAN!!?!? something ancient and not
equivalent to lat/longitude, so we had no idea where the wrecks were..
        TIme to move

      • We've Left!!
        07/23/06
We left! We finished loading up the RV. Jerry helped us finish up a couple of last-minute fixes. I slipped on my nice green socks from Miranda's Grandmother and we left the house at around 11pm! We decided on heading towards the Upper Peninsula, so we parked at the Meyers Beach parking lot.

      • Packing Up!
        07/23/06
We spent all day yesterday, and probably all day again today packing up the RV and last minute fixes. Hoping to leave for a short test-trip tonight!? I'm still on "emergency" call for another week, so i can't wonder off too far. But I am done with my daily work duties. It i

      • Surfing in Lake Superior on Park Point
        07/11/06
Laura, Miranda and I had the rare treat of 2ft waves in the middle of July on Lake Superior.. normally it has to be early spring or late fall for the waves to be surfable. Although they were small, the girls were stoked and had a good time!! Here is a video of Miranda and Laura showing their s

        07/10/06
Joe needed to go up north for work and Matt was in town, so the three of us went scuba diving at Ore-Be-Gone. There's a lot of neat stuff down there to look at, plus we saw fish all over.

      • Pattison State Park
        07/08/06
My Mum, Miranda, Odie and I found 3 GeoCaches south of Superior, and then visited Pattison State Park quick. Nice looking area, but swimming lake was hugely busy.
        -Joe

The path we took at the State Park ended in this small river.

Nice head shot of Odie while he was

      • Moose Hunting
        07/06/06
After our drive on Hwy 1 a few days ago, we've been excited to try again. I bought a 12v Spotlight that lights up better than headlights! Miranda and I left Duluth at 7pm to go Moose Hunting! We drove 60 miles to the start of Hwy 1 up the North Shore. It wasn't quite dark yet so we hiked

Since Joe and I had driven up to his mom's after our Eagle Mountain hike, we all went for a hike north of Ely. The trails seemed to be mostly for cross-country skiing, but they were great hike. There were many different loops to choose from. In the end, Joe, his mom, Odie, and I hiked about

      • Hike Up Eagle Mountain
        07/02/06
Joe and I drove up to the Boundary Waters to hike up Eagle Mountain, the highest point in Minnesota. It was a nice 3.5 mile hike. Busy weekend though, we passed quite a number of groups along the way. After the hike we decided that we would drive to his mother's house instead of going home.

      • Cave Exploring
        07/01/06
Friends of Joe's, Toan and Thang, came up from the Cities for the day, so we all went up to Soudan to check out some bat caves and go for a little hike. We didn't see any bats, but the three caves we checked out were neat. We were toasty after the hike so we went to an old mine pit nearb
