So started back running the delimber for Pat for a Week and a half while Dave (the not-so-retired delimber operator) is on a trip.
It went fine, but I couldn't fall asleep last night and we left at 4am... so I now have a bad headache and Joe thinks I'm loopy...

So we got the engine put back in the yarder. I worked up the last trees they brought up from that set and as I was backing up to clean more of the road off, I looked behind me and my machine was smoking. Turns out my fan belt was busted. There was something wrong with my heating hose too, so I had to run to town to get those two things. The road we're working on and the county road off the highway we drive on were pure ice. So, we had put on tire chains that morning to get up our road. I got to take those off then when I got back put them on... all by myself. Fortunately, it didn't take me too long to do, but it was so slick right inside the gate that my using the pickup for support while walking on the ice made the pickup slide about a foot.

Well, we had some mechanical problems on Friday. At about 3 the carraige stopped working. Pat couldn't figure out what was wrong with it so we had to load it up in the pickup and take it home. He fixed that on Saterday though, so we were back up and running on Monday. He actually does have another carraige in case something does go wrong with the one he's using.
Well, today at about 10:30, something with the yarder's upper engine broke. Some housing and something to do with the transmission... Anyway, we had to use the delimber to take the upper engine off after they unhooked everything. I then passed it around so Pat could pick it up with the loader and put it in the pickup. He took that to town while Tom, Brandon and I stayed up there so Tom could work on some other issues and so Dennis could keep clipping trees. Basically I stood around and did nothing until 4:30. Fun fun. But I got paid for it.
Anyway, no work for me tomorrow. Unless I have to do some errand running for Pat. Like picking up a transmission from one of his old machines. We'll see.

It was 50 degrees up at the job today! I was getting the rest of the mud off the tracks now that it was warm enough (long story) and I easily should have been working in my t-shirt. Crazy. Our temps have been basically the same as Minnesota.. up until now I guess.

So this morning I had hydralic oil leaking out of the machine's head. So I shut her down and found a hose that was leaking. Pat got some stuff from the shop truck and made a hose. I think he's getting a replacement tomorrow. Regardless it works, it's just longer than needed so there's extra hose snaking around in the head.
Then, not four hours later, I was extending the head out to put a log down in the deck and it wouldn't stop. Went all the way out to the stops. Pat was in the loader at the end of the deck so it was good the head was angled down enough, otherwise he might have had a log through his window. Anyway, then Tom (he was in the yarder) says on the radio, "shut it off. Your pumping oil everywhere." Great. So I blew a big hose on the top of the boom. While Pat worked on fixing that, I drove to the shop truck (it's down the road a ways parked in a wide spot) and got 15 gallons of hydralic oil. There is now oil everywhere. My tacks are super slippery.
So, I'm getting a bit frustrated and I'll be really happy when spring break-up comes.
