Today Pat and Nancy took us for a drive around northwest Montana. We went up to Libby and through Troy. We also went by Turner Mountain (a ski hill) and went for a short hike to a swinging bridge and the Kootenai Falls off of highway 2. There is a map below that shows our general route (I believe). Pat told us a bunch of stories, which was fun. We got to see a bunch of new countryside, which was pretty. Unfortunately, the only pictures I got of the swinging bridge are blurred. The sun was setting and Joe kept bouncing. Think the bridge at Jay Cooke State Park but skinnier and more bouncy. There was a limit of 5 persons.

The map. To give an idea of distance, it's a bit over 100 miles to Troy from Kalispell along highway 2.
Libby Dam.
Momma Mary might recognize this.
The Kootenai Falls on the Kootenai River. Notice the frost on the upper mountain. There were some neat frost lines.

So this morning I had hydralic oil leaking out of the machine's head. So I shut her down and found a hose that was leaking. Pat got some stuff from the shop truck and made a hose. I think he's getting a replacement tomorrow. Regardless it works, it's just longer than needed so there's extra hose snaking around in the head.
Then, not four hours later, I was extending the head out to put a log down in the deck and it wouldn't stop. Went all the way out to the stops. Pat was in the loader at the end of the deck so it was good the head was angled down enough, otherwise he might have had a log through his window. Anyway, then Tom (he was in the yarder) says on the radio, "shut it off. Your pumping oil everywhere." Great. So I blew a big hose on the top of the boom. While Pat worked on fixing that, I drove to the shop truck (it's down the road a ways parked in a wide spot) and got 15 gallons of hydralic oil. There is now oil everywhere. My tacks are super slippery.
So, I'm getting a bit frustrated and I'll be really happy when spring break-up comes.

Joe and I went for a short walk in the back pasture today. One of neighbor's horses was down near the fence so he came over and I got to pet him. Not long after two others showed up. So, I sat around and petted them for awhile. Unfortunately, I wasn't expecting them to be there so I didn't bring my camera. Maybe some other time.

Yes, this is getting ridiculus. The guy we had last week didn't show up on Monday or Tuesday and never called. So Pat basically said he was done. He's fed up with dealing with these people that don't want to work, or just can't show up for work. However, last night a guy called about the job and Pat was pretty harsh with him, but the guy still came up today. He did pretty well too. He has experience which always helps. We'll see if this one lasts.

YAY I didn't have to go to work today! It was too cold. We don't go to work when it's below -10. Pat went up and called at 5:30 saying it was -19. When he called again a few minutes later it was -22. Brrr. It's colder there than in town here too, but when I got up around 9ish the thermometer said -10 and that was in the sun.
