Well, we didn't pick the best time to leave.... right at the start of a thunderstorm. It was just starting to rain when we pulled out of the driveway. It hit Kalispell pretty hard.. There was lightening striking everywhere and lots of wind. We saw one big lightening strike and then the power went out. That wasn't far from Pat and Nancy's so I'm sure they lost power. And people are idiots when the traffic lights don't work... :p There were even some tree branches in the road. Right on the north end of Flathead Lake, south of Kalispell, a tree fell across the power lines and into the road, leaving only one lane of traffic. Fortunately, a firetruck was there directing traffic, but they weren't chopping into the tree yet, so it must not have fallen too long before we got there...

So it has been in the 90's for at least a couple weeks... Very hot and dry. It's raining now Woohoo! I also finished work today so Joe and I are going to be packing up the RV tomorrow in order to leave very soon. His plan is tomorrow night.. (driving will be less busy). Plus we want to get to Spokane relatively soon to check out a Sprint store about internet. Pat's sister was by and stayed for a night a couple weeks ago. She and her husband were truckers for a while and apparently she used something with Sprint for internet and she said they had really good coverage... We'll see how it goes.

So started back running the delimber for Pat for a Week and a half while Dave (the not-so-retired delimber operator) is on a trip.
It went fine, but I couldn't fall asleep last night and we left at 4am... so I now have a bad headache and Joe thinks I'm loopy...

Joe and I went with Pat and Nancy this morning as they went fishing. No, we don't fish, but they were heading up to Glacier National Park to McDonald Lake. This did mean we had to get up really early.... about 6 am. However, the scenery was beautiful. It was a gorgeous morning and the lake was really calm. We even got root beer floats on the way home.

Joe was not overly happy getting up that early.
Some of the mountains. To see a couple more scenery pics, see the deviant art pic.

We went for a 4.7 mile canoe paddle in Ashley Lake today. The lake was gorgeous and the day was perfect. There were lots of birds all over. We saw a number of baby ducks and we got out at one spot and walked around a little. There were songbirds all over, but it was just slightly too dark to get any good photos and they were all moving around so fast. There was also an eagle we kept running into. We spotted it while we were paddling, then I all of a sudden noticed it sitting in a snag above us (photo below) and when we got out to walk around apparently we weren't that far from the eagle's nest. Which I spotted once between trees just because the eagle landed there, but I couldn't find it again without going closer, which we weren't going to do. The eagle seemed to be watching us. It flew to a few different trees around us and awhile after left it flew over top of us, circled back and flew right over us again, relatively close (by this time we weren't far from the landing and no where even near the nest).
Oh, there was also a loon family that we saw. I saw the one first and got a bunch of pics (look on DA for that one) and then I noticed the other one farther away and it looked like it probably had chicks with it, so we left them alone.
All-in-all, a fun canoe trip.

I believe this is a Golden Eye and its chicks. (click on it for a larger image)
The canoe and our stuff before we got back in after our walk.
The eagle sitting in the snag, and we were that close before I even spotted it.
The eagle's second pass, apparently checking us out.
